NeuroKinetic Therapy

NeuroKinetic Therapy® (NKT) is a movement assessment approach that explores how your muscles work together. When movement feels difficult or uncomfortable, the area you notice may be only one part of the picture. NKT looks at the wider movement pattern to help guide a more personalised approach.

During a session, your practitioner observes how you move and uses gentle, hands-on muscle tests to explore how different muscles respond. They may then use movement or hands-on techniques and retest to see whether anything has changed. You may be given simple exercises to practise between sessions.

The goal is to help you become more aware of how your body moves and find ways to improve coordination, strength and confidence in everyday activities. At Pilates Body Shop, NKT can help inform exercises chosen for your individual needs and goals.

Everyone’s body and experience are different. NKT is an assessment and movement approach; it does not diagnose medical conditions or guarantee pain relief.

I was recommended to do Pilates from my specialist to manage Ankylosing spondylitis a condition that I was diagnosed with, as a teenager. Ankylosing spondylitis is an inflammatory disease that, over time, causes some of the small bones in your spine to fuse along with other painful effects on the body. I have been attending Robyn’s classes for almost 10 years and find my body and spine more flexible. I always walk out feeling better for attending the class. Robyn observes closely my program and notices exercises that are beneficial to my condition. My Specialist is very happy with how Pilates has improved and stopped the degeneration of my spine.I’m so glad I found Robyn when I did- I would hate to think what the condition of my spine/pain would be in! I feel the difference if I miss a week. -Mick Willis

I was originally directed into doing Pilates from a physiotherapist because of my chronic lower back pain. I attended their classes and had experienced several instructors over the years. I moved into Forresters Beach and heard of Robyn through a friend .I found Robyn to be caring, knowledgeable and an expert in her field. Robyn addresses the body from a holistic approach. No matter how sore I am when I walk in I will always walk out feeling better –physically and mentally. I feel like I’m part of the family and I look forward to catching up with the other participants in the class every week. - Wendy Shoemark

I tried Pilates to address my sciatic nerve pain and improve my fitness and flexibility. My posture, balance, flexibility and strength in my spine and abdominals improved quickly and my back remains free of pain. Robyn constantly updates her knowledge and her passion comes through in her teaching. Her classes are fun, functional and informative always addressing the individual’s needs on the day. My body can feel the difference after each Pilates class. I have been attending Robyn’s Pilates classes for over 16 years now- I absolutely love it. -Viv Leek
